Introducing Home Office Renovations

Covid 19 and Working From Home

This year when Companies had to reach out to their employees, they notified them of workplace shutdowns. These office and workplace shutdowns allowed “work from home”. After the pandemic lockdown passes, they and other professionals across the country realized the work-from-home trend is here for the long haul.

In March, the governments made it clear that many of us would be shifting from offices and other locations to work from home. Millions of professionals moved quickly to set up work areas in our homes, apartments, and condos. Some had the benefit of having a professional home office in place, but many others are working from kitchens, dens, couches or other available spaces as they moved in a rush to set things up.

Well we have adapted, and with all the Zoom calls, management, space, and time limited to these employees we have seen a cry for help. Why not make your home office more like it is at work? Why not have the office space created, installing doors, company colors, the feature wall, the proper lighting, or even Logo and Signage in your home office. Como Construction Inc. can work with the employee/ employer to make this possible.

Providing a plan/ layout of the existing space and making it your office! Doing this while abiding Covid protocols, we can convert that office space to make it work better for you!

The Steps To Get There

  1. A dedicated space. Ideally, you would use a small room or space that can hold a desk and computer equipment and whose door can be shut for the essential need to separate work life from home life. (Installing this door or creating this space is part of our process)
  2. Proper work height. Your space needs a desk or table that is at work height. (Como Construction Inc can install and set up your office desks, shelving units, etc.)
  3. Proper seating and monitor height. (Working ergonomically Friendly)

Claiming Home Office Renovations

As the COVID-19 pandemic shifts employees from their offices to their homes, many employees are left wondering whether they’ll now be able to deduct home office expenses from their employment income in their 2020 tax return.

To deduct home office expenses, an employee would generally need:

  • a work from home arrangement included in the individual’s employment contract, and
  • Form T2200, completed by the employer.
